What’s the big deal about Fair Trade? We actually get this question a lot! If you look up the definition of Fair Trade, you will find results referring to a social movement whose stated goal is to help producers in developing countries achieve better trading conditions while promoting sustainability. But to us, Fair Trade is that and so much more!

Fair Trade ensures that producers receive fair market prices, are free from labor abuses and use sustainable growing and production methods. In a world where corporate profits rule these crafters and farmers are often exploited, creating a cycle of poverty and environmental degradation. Fair Trade can break that cycle, creating better lives, stronger communities and a healthier environment. We are dedicated to Fair Trade, and use suppliers dedicated to Fair Trade and sustainability.

We import all of our salt products through a long-term direct relationship that creates mutual accountability. Our partners observe fair trade principles that include 25% greater than average wages, human rights such as rest breaks, chilled water, protective clothing, safe working environments and medical care. You can be assured that our talented craftsmen are respected and cared for as valuable members of the So Well team.  We do not supply big box stores and only work with customers who value high quality, uniqueness and Fair Trade.

A primary component of trade is the small premium that buyers of fair trade goods pay as part of their purchase price for socially responsible products. An important factor of the fair trade social premium is that the producers decide where and how it is spent. In our case, our production partners use it to raise wages, create a safe working environment and offer important benefits.  Additionally, our ingredients are harvested sustainably and we use 100% reusable, recyclable and eco-friendly packaging.

Food Grade Salt

If you’ve tried them, you’re already familiar with the wonderful flavor our gourmet salt products bring to your favorite dishes. What you might not know, though, is that all of the salt used in both our gourmet products, all of our bath & body products, and each therapeutic product comes from our inspected food grade facility, while our lamps, candle holders and other decorative products are produced in an adjacent, separate, facility specializing in decorative crafts. We sample each lot of food grade salt used in both the bath & body and gourmet products and have it analyzed and certified for content to ensure we can guarantee our standards of quality and safety in both of these product categories. 

What this means, in short, is that whether you buy our  gourmet products or our bath products, you’re receiving salt from a hygienic environment, and can use either product type both against your skin or for edible consumption. Each of our handcrafted products that includes our fair trade Himalayan salt, such as deodorant powders, soaks, or tooth powders, also makes use of only food grade salt.  

So whether you’re in the market for a gourmet salt product, one of our bath & body or therapy products, keep in mind that they are both versatile in their uses. For example, you could purchase a 55 lbs. package of coarse or fine salt and use it in both the bathroom and the kitchen.

Himalayan salt platters are good for more than just displaying your tasty treats. In fact, cooking on Himalayan salt is fun, and it makes your finished product taste even better! Take a look at these tips and facts before you start cooking to ensure you’re getting the most out of your Himalayan salt platter. Make a full meal, or turn a basic appetizer into an unforgettable experience. After all, why use a plain serving tray when you can serve on a dramatic-looking salt platter?

You’ll Wind Up Imparting a Salty Seasoning
Cooking on Himalayan salt is a great way to inject more flavor into your foods because some of the salt will naturally rub off onto whatever you’re cooking. You’ll want to be careful not to over-salt your food, though. If you’ve got foods that are moist — like steaks and vegetables — cut those thinly before you place them on a Himalayan salt platter. That way, they can cook quickly, before they have a chance to take on too much salt.

Tap Into the Power of Oil
If you’ve got food that simply can’t be sliced and you still want to cook it on Himalayan salt, oil can be extremely helpful. Use & Serving Instructions
Before the first heated cooking use, be sure to heat our Himalayan Salt Bowl over low flame for roughly 7 minutes. Turn off the heat and allow the bowl to cool for 5 minutes. Heat the bowl again for 10 minutes then proceed to making your recipe. If you are using an electric range, place on a diffuser so the bowl isn’t touching the heating element (at least ½ inch above the stove).

To serve cold dishes, simply place the bowl in the freezer for 2-4 hours. Serve ice cream, fruit, cold deserts.

Care
Salt is durable, long-lasting and naturally anti-bacterial so care and upkeep is easy. Simply wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry between each use. You may use a soft brush to remove any food particles left behind. Do not put in a dishwasher or leave in standing water or the salt will erode.
